About our organization:
APEX Advocacy is a U.S.-based, registered 501(c)3 non-profit organization that aims to increase the number of BIPOC that advocate for animal rights. APEX spearheads BlPOC-centered animal rights initiatives and events while also providing a variety of services to nurture the BIPOC animal advocacy community. Our organization consists of a small team of predominantly advocates of color with diverse backgrounds, skills, and life experiences, eager to advocate for animal, human, and earth liberation.

Compensation: $1200/month flat fee
Duration: Through December 2025 (with high possibility of renewal)
Job Summary
As APEX Advocacy’s Development Support Specialist, you’ll lead grant-seeking efforts and help launch fundraising campaigns for our intersectional mission. This is a hands-on contract role for a self-directed collaborator who thrives in small, grassroots teams. You’ll ensure our BIPOC-led animal rights work secures the funding it deserves—combining strategic grant writing with creative fundraising support.
Key Responsibilities
Grant Strategy & Submissions (Primary Focus)
Research, identify, and secure grants of $5,000+ aligned with our intersectional mission (BIPOC + animal rights).
Develop compelling proposals, letters of inquiry, and reports tailored to funder priorities
Track deadlines, reporting, and funder requirements in collaboration with APEX’s grantwriting volunteer.
Maintain organized records of submissions, renewals, and outcomes.
Fundraising Campaign Coordination
Design and execute three annual campaigns, including:
A Giving Tuesday initiative
APEX’s End-of-Year Fundraising Party (final 1–2 weeks of December)
One additional campaign aligned with organizational priorities
Maintain and segment donor/email subscriber lists in Neon One CRM to support fundraising efforts.
Collaborate with APEX's fundraising volunteer on campaign tasks, outreach strategies, and donor engagement.
Develop compelling quarterly donor reports that highlight APEX’s achievements, financial stewardship, and mission progress.
Systems & Compliance
Build APEX’s Charity Navigator profile and update as needed.
Attend regular meetings to sync on priorities.
Required Experience:
Minimum one year of combined experience in grant writing and fundraising, preferably with social justice or niche nonprofit causes.
Demonstrated ability to research and identify aligned grant opportunities.
Proven success in executing donor campaigns (digital, events, or peer-to-peer).
Experience in crafting copy for social media, email appeals, and donor reports.
Proficiency with CRM systems and fundraising platforms (such as GiveLively & Neon One).
Skilled with project management tools (Google Workspace required; Basecamp a plus).
Essential Skills:
Exceptional writing and storytelling abilities for diverse audiences from persuasive grant narratives for institutions to donor-facing appeals for grassroots audiences
Savvy in data organization with the ability to track grant deadlines to extracting insights from campaign metrics
Strong organizational and time management skills for remote work
