Read the Room: Political Education for Animal Welfare

Vegan political education, critical animal studies, and animal liberation theory

Read the Room is where we break down and unpack scholarly works and academic ideas, making them accessible and actionable for our daily lives and collective liberation.

We’re passionate about this series because we know that revolutionary ideas can’t induce change if they’re locked behind academic walls. Theory must be understood to be transformative. Plus, scholars and grassroots animal rights advocates have much to learn from each other. This is where those conversations take place.

Who is Read the Room for?

  • Social justice organizers seeking to deepen their understanding of animal welfare and food systems

  • Community leaders interested in building stronger cross-movement coalitions

  • Artists and cultural workers exploring storytelling as a tool for social change

  • Educators incorporating animal justice into broader discussions of equity, health, and sustainability

  • Advocates working across racial, environmental, labor, disability, or public health movements

  • Students and emerging leaders developing systems-thinking and intersectional analysis

  • Nonprofit professionals interested in collaborative movement-building

  • Anyone committed to expanding their understanding of how human, animal, and environmental justice are interconnected
