Get Active With APEX Advocacy

APEX Advocacy is a brand new non-profit organization that advocates for animal protection, equality, and intersectionality.

At APEX Advocacy, we want to contribute to the cause by doing something new, bold, and unapologetic – here’s how. Our mission is to increase the number of BIPOC individuals who participate in animal activism by advocating for collective liberation through animal rights, particularly in marginalized areas and communities that are disproportionately affected by the animal industrial complex. Animal exploitation negatively impacts nonhumans and humans alike, and must therefore be addressed as such: a global movement in which different communities, identities, and movements come together to oppose structures of oppression as a unified force.

APEX Advocacy will bring together different identities and communities to participate in purposeful, effective, and strategic activism. You will see APEX plan and launch goal-oriented pressure campaigns, i.e. we determine a particular target, employ a wide range of tactics, voice our demands, and fight until we reach our goal. However, what sets APEX apart are not necessarily the tactics; you will see APEX organize common methods such as leafleting, protests, outreach events, and much more. What differentiates APEX is the who and the how

WHO

APEX is a vegan organization, but our advocacy isn’t vegan-centered. While APEX Advocacy is an abolitionist organization and actively promotes veganism, we also believe in the importance of including and assisting community members who might not be vegan or experienced in animal rights activism. BIPOC are usually affected disproportionately by the animal industry yet often lack the support to fight back effectively. This is where APEX comes in.

We search far and wide to locate specific instances where animal agriculture is being overlooked in BIPOC communities, all while negatively impacting, exploiting, or taking advantage of these communities. APEX Advocacy will empower these communities by providing them with resources, guidance, strategies, actions, and materials so they can effectively fight against animal industries. For instance, this may include advocating against slaughterhouses or farms harming BIPOC communities, fighting animal agriculture’s connection to the prison industrial complex that decimates BIPOC communities, or combating predatory animal ag legislation disproportionately impacting BIPOC communities.

This empowers marginalized communities and introduces BIPOC to engage in and join the animal rights movement as part of their own struggle against oppression. Since animal exploitation is not only speciesist, but also racist, at APEX Advocacy we draw attention to, and target those instances in which speciesist, racist and other oppressive elements play a significant role because revolutionary social justice movements must be populated, and led by the communities that experience it first-hand.

HOW

Pressure campaigns are a great way to achieve lasting change. Our campaigns will not only be led by BIPOC and focus on cases that particularly affect their communities, but they will also make use of a wide range of tactics. This entails coordinated actions aimed at a specific target until all demands are met. We believe in the power of grassroots activism, especially if organized in a well-planned, inclusive, and strategic manner. Tactics may include vigils, protests, direct action, outreach, Tweetstorms, flyering, collecting signatures, etc. - while being directed at a specific institution, company, practice, or business.

Our campaigns and initiatives will always take into consideration and highlight the intersections of different structures of oppression, i.e. our demands, discourse, and message will shed a light on the speciesist, racist, sexist, classist, and ableist aspects of the issue at hand. Not only does this draw attention to the interconnectedness of oppression, but it also brings together those who are concerned about animal cruelty, racial injustice, white supremacy, patriarchal domination, climate change, public health, and so forth, building the bridges necessary for total and collective liberation. We help communities of color defend themselves against animal industries through community organizing and activism.

We hope that our vision, mission, and overall strategy resonates with you, and invite everyone to come and join us in our activism to liberate ourselves and others from the same systems of oppression that hurt most of us.
