APEX Advocacy Wins Grants to Further Intersectional Animal Advocacy

APEX Advocacy has received numerous grants since the beginning of the year, putting it on pace to have a successful year of fundraising. As a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, APEX is entirely run on donations and grants from donors and grantmaking organizations. Our work, which focuses on creating more BIPOC animal activists, is a unique endeavor in the animal rights movement, but one whose importance more people are beginning to understand as animal advocacy evolves. We are grateful for the generous support of our donors who make our work possible and who trust us to lead the effort for a stronger, more diverse animal liberation movement.

APEX’s awarded grants thus far in 2023 total $74,800. We have been awarded the following grants:

LUSH Cosmetics: $22,300

LUSH is the trailblazing natural cosmetics company which has set a new standard for compassion in its production practices by developing policies with its suppliers to ensure that none tested any of its ingredients on animals. Additionally, LUSH has made concerted efforts to support Black-led businesses, joined the global effort to break free from fossil fuels, and launched a campaign to successfully raise $50 million for charities around the world since 2007.

Stray Dog Institute: $2,500

Stray Dog Institute is a private operating foundation which focuses on transforming the food system through funding, research, and collaborative means. Like APEX, Stray Dog Institute takes an intersectional approach to social justice advocacy, focusing on issues such as public policy, climate change, and biodiversity which affect the ultimate goal of movement building and making animal rights a space that includes diverse (and historically ignored) voices.

The People’s Fund: $20,000

A grantmaking program of the international farmed animal nonprofit Mercy For Animals, the People’s Fund exists to advance social justice in farmed animal welfare with an underlying focus on the intersections of food justice and racial equality. The People’s Fund approaches its grantmaking process through the values of solidarity and transparency.

Animal Charity Evaluators: $20,000

Animal Charity Evaluators (often referred to as “ACE”) is a prominent charity which uses data and research to rank the effectiveness of animal advocacy nonprofits throughout the world. ACE is dedicated to the value of anti-speciesism and uses its rating system to help donors understand which groups are the most effective in achieving results for nonhuman animals around the world.

William and Charlotte Parks Foundation: $10,000

The Parks Foundation (known officially as the William and Charlotte Parks Foundation) is an organization which awards grants of $10,000 or less to projects, research, and other advocacy for nonhuman animals. The Parks Foundation typically awards grants to animal welfare initiatives but has graciously awarded APEX a generous grant to focus on abolitionist messaging in the farmed animal liberation movement.

Patreon: $4,500

APEX also wishes to recognize the many Patreon supporters of our founder, Chris “Soul” Eubanks. Though Patreon contributions do not go directly to APEX, they support APEX’s work by providing added funding for Chris’s relevant expenses such as travel to animal protection events/conferences and speaking engagements which occur throughout the year. Because some of these may not be able to cover travel costs or offer compensation, Patreon funds provide meaningful coverage for these select events. As a small organization with a limited budget, APEX relies on every dollar - whether directly or indirectly donated - to help us move closer to achieving our mission.

With the last quarter of 2023 upon us, we are beyond grateful for all the support, cheers, and donations we have received from our followers and donors. We truly could not do any of our important and innovative work without this invaluable support!
