MeetUp: Veganism Is Anti-Oppression & Solidarity Across Species

At this week’s Meetup come hear from Yasmin Badshamiah (she/they) who is the Director of Communications at APEX Advocacy. Yasmin will be talking with us about veganism as a liberation practice, unlearning colonial habits in mainstream veganism, and what becomes possible when animal liberation is built in relationship with other liberation struggles. Yasmin Badshamiah will introduce APEX Advocacy’s approach to animal justice and invite folks to get closer to what we’re building at APEX. Q&A to follow.

More about the speaker: Yasmin is a NorCal-based writer, mother, long-time vegan, and strategist, Yasmin builds narrative power for total liberation. After working inside traditional animal rights communications, Yasmin stopped trading truth for palatability and defanged politics. At APEX, they shape language for animal justice that keeps us whole and moves people into solidarity with all beings. Yasmin's organizing spans mutual aid, Palestine advocacy, youth work, and cultural event production. They co-created a California Arts Council–funded queer youth poetry + spoken word program and served as a core facilitator for APEX’s 2025 Pre Animal Activist Week BIPOC convening.

Fresh coffee, tea, and a delicious plant-based brunch will be provided at the Meetup as well!
