Join APEX Advocacy at Black VegFest!

APEX Advocacy is heading to Brooklyn for the 9th annual Black VegFest! Join us on August 8 for a day of community, culture, delicious vegan food, and conversations about building a more just world for animals and people.

Black VegFest brings together Black vegans, organizers, entrepreneurs, artists, and community members to celebrate plant-based living, cultural traditions, and collective liberation.

As a Black-led animal advocacy organization, APEX is excited to connect with community members and explore how animal liberation intersects with racial justice, disability justice, climate justice, and other movements working toward systemic change. Sunny Satva, APEX’s Development Specialist, will be on-site with some of our community volunteers.

Here's where you can find us:

  • Animal Advocacy and Cross-Movement Solidarity Panel. 2:30 PM, Sankofa Tent: Join APEX Advocacy's Sunny Satva for a conversation about animal advocacy, building solidarity across movements, and creating meaningful change through culture, political education, and community organizing. Whether you're a longtime advocate or new to animal justice, this conversation is for you!

  • Visit the APEX Booth: Meet our team, learn about our programs, explore opportunities to volunteer, and pick up exclusive APEX merchandise.

  • Explore Food as Advocacy: Discover Sunny's Vegan Swahili Cookbook and spice blends, alongside an interactive demonstration exploring African culinary traditions, the history of the spice trade, and the power of food to connect people with culture and justice.

We believe the animal advocacy movement grows stronger when we create accessible spaces for learning, build relationships across communities, and recognize that there are many ways to contribute to collective liberation.

We can't wait to see you there!

Event Recap: Building Community and Collective Power at Black VegFest

On August 8, APEX Advocacy joined hundreds of community members, advocates, and organizers at Brooklyn's 9th annual Black VegFest for a celebration of Black culture, vegan food, and collective liberation.

Throughout the day, APEX’s Sunny Satva and volunteers connected with over three hundred of you (!!!) at the APEX community table, sharing information about APEX's work to build B.I.P.O.C. leadership in animal advocacy and strengthen solidarity across justice movements.

At the Sankofa Tent, Sunny Satva represented APEX in a conversation about animal advocacy and cross-movement solidarity, exploring how we can build a movement that recognizes the interconnected struggles for racial, environmental, disability, and animal justice.

One of the day's highlights was an interactive spice demonstration featuring Sunny's Vegan Swahili Cookbook and spice blends. Through conversations about African culinary traditions and the history of the spice trade, attendees explored how food can serve as a powerful entry point into advocacy.

Delicious food is one of many tools we can use to build a movement. It opens conversations, connects us with our histories and cultures, challenges assumptions, and creates opportunities for people to engage with animal justice in ways that feel accessible and meaningful.

Building a stronger animal advocacy movement starts with building relationships, and events like Black VegFest are essential.

We're grateful to the Black VegFest organizers, fellow advocates, and everyone who stopped by to connect with us. We look forward to continuing these conversations and turning the relationships we build into collective action.
